GHK-Cu Research Profile
GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide made from
glycine, histidine and lysine. It has been studied in skin and tissue
research. Human evidence is stronger for topical applications than
for injectable use.

About GHK-Cu
GHK-Cu is the copper complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine.
It has been studied as a signaling molecule involved in gene
expression and in pathways related to tissue remodeling and
antioxidant activity.
Laboratory and preclinical research has explored collagen,
elastin, wound-healing and inflammatory pathways. These findings
do not establish clinical benefits for every formulation or route
of administration.
Topical formulations and injectable research products are
different forms. Evidence from topical use should not be treated
as proof of safety or effectiveness for injections.

Research Areas
What Research Has Examined
Skin & Extracellular Matrix
Topical and laboratory studies have examined collagen, elastin and
glycosaminoglycan-related pathways. Some human research reports
changes in skin appearance, but results may depend on formulation
and study design.
Wound & Tissue Research
Preclinical studies have examined wound closure, collagen
organization, angiogenesis and tissue remodeling. Animal and
laboratory findings do not establish a treatment effect in people.
Hair & Other Pathways
Early research has explored hair-follicle activity, inflammatory
signaling and antioxidant enzymes. Evidence for these areas is
limited, and injectable use relies more heavily on preclinical
findings than on human trials.
Evidence Overview
Topical and Injectable Evidence
The strongest human evidence discussed for GHK-Cu relates to topical
applications. Evidence for injectable use is much more limited and
relies primarily on laboratory research, preclinical findings and
non-standardized practice reports.
Findings from a topical cream or serum cannot confirm the safety or
effectiveness of an injectable product. Product form, quality and
route matter when evaluating research claims.
Safety & Regulatory Status
Important Product Limitations
Topical products may cause temporary tingling, flushing or skin
irritation. Injectable use may cause local reactions. Human safety
information for injectable GHK-Cu is limited.
People with Wilson’s disease or other copper-metabolism disorders
should seek medical advice before exposure to copper-containing
products. Theoretical concerns have also been raised about use in
active cancer; these concerns require clinical assessment.
GHK-Cu is not an FDA-approved drug. FDA’s compounding information
treats non-injectable and injectable GHK-Cu differently: the
non-injectable nomination is under evaluation, while injectable
preparations are excluded from that category. FDA has also described
potential immunogenicity concerns for compounded injectable GHK-Cu,
including aggregation and peptide-related impurities.
