Cagrilintide Research Profile
Cagrilintide is a long-acting synthetic analogue of amylin, a hormone
released by pancreatic beta cells. It is being studied on its own and
in combination with semaglutide as CagriSema. Cagrilintide remains
investigational and is not FDA-approved.

About Cagrilintide
Cagrilintide is a synthetic, long-acting analogue of amylin, a
37-amino-acid hormone co-released with insulin by pancreatic beta
cells. It was developed with structural modifications intended to
extend its activity.
Cagrilintide is studied as a dual amylin and calcitonin receptor
agonist. Research has examined its effects on satiety, food intake
and gastric emptying. These mechanisms and trial findings do not
establish a treatment benefit for an unapproved research product.
CagriSema is a separate investigational combination of cagrilintide
and semaglutide. Results from that combination should not be
presented as results from cagrilintide alone.

Research Areas
What Clinical Research Has Examined
Amylin-Pathway Research
Clinical and preclinical research has examined cagrilintide’s
effects on satiety, appetite and body weight. Proposed receptor
activity does not confirm an outcome for an individual or
unapproved product.
Cagrilintide Alone
In the phase 3 REDEFINE 1 trial, the cagrilintide-alone group had
an estimated mean body-weight reduction of about 11.8% at 68 weeks
under the trial’s treatment conditions. A clinical-trial result
does not establish efficacy or safety for research-grade material.
CagriSema Combination
In REDEFINE 1, the cagrilintide–semaglutide combination produced
greater average weight reduction than placebo. This combination
result cannot be attributed to cagrilintide alone or transferred
to a different product.
Evidence Overview
Clinical Findings and Their Limits
Clinical trials have studied cagrilintide alone and in combination
with semaglutide. Trial results apply to the specific investigational
products, participants and conditions studied.
CagriSema’s reported results are combination-treatment findings.
They should not be used to claim that cagrilintide alone produces
the same outcomes. Research-grade products are not equivalent to
the controlled trial formulations.
Safety & Regulatory Status
Important Limitations
Gastrointestinal effects reported in clinical studies include nausea,
vomiting, constipation, diarrhea and abdominal discomfort. Injection
site reactions may also occur. Safety and tolerability depend on the
specific investigational product and clinical context.
As of October 15, 2026, cagrilintide alone is not FDA-approved.
Novo Nordisk submitted an application for CagriSema in December 2025;
the combination remained investigational while FDA review was
anticipated in late 2026.
FDA states that cagrilintide cannot be used in compounding under
federal law. A research-grade vial is not an FDA-approved medicine
and should not be represented as a compounded or approved treatment.
